They'll discover it
three feet down,
covered in rock
and dust, a little white
tail sticking up
from a rabbit hole.
They'll hold it up,
examine it in the moonlight,
turn it over and over,
make notes
on a star-light-infused
holo-screen data collector
that never knew sunlight
and argue about its function
all day long.
This I tell my son
when he misplaces again
the iPad charger and claims
"it is gone forever"
and I reply,
"nothing is gone forever,
never ever,
someday it will be found."
Just not today.
