An Apple Per Day: Day 10

I missed my blogging deadline yesterday - but at least I ate my apple.

A wonky workplace accident put my wrist out of commission for a hot-second. Luckily, it's just a sprain and it's my left wrist. As I'm right-handed, my typing thumb has been reserved.

So, I had to go to the doctor for something other than preventative care. Dangit! However, it was workplace encouraged, for which I am thankful. And, the preventative aspect is the follow up physical therapy, geared towards giving me the tools I need to recover from my sprain quicker and to prevent i jury in the future.

Not sure about my readers, but injury is never fun. So, my apple yesterday after a forever wait at the doc's, xrays and whatnot was a delicious Pink Lady apple.

It served not just a medicinal purpose - but a functional one too.

I came of age in the 80's and 90's. When the news, our doctors, medical scientists, paranoid global disease epidemic hobbyists and the CDC issue warnings of superbugs, resistance, H1N1 and the Avian Flu - and how the antibiotic loving generations inadvertently created a bunch of immunocompromised 30 & 40 something peeps - yeah...they are talking about me.

Growing up, antibiotics where prescribed for ails from coughs and colds to trips and falls and everything in between. Today, parents and public institutions alike are taking the conservative route I call, "God made dirt and dirt don't hurt."

When I was given 800 mg of ibuprofen I wasn't too enthused. At the same time - what I thought of as a simple sprain is surprisingly painful and (this may shock some) I actually love my job, my co-workers and supervisors. If a short trial of anti-inflammatory ensures a productive workweek next week - I will take it over the niggling, puffy wrist pain that takes my focus from my job.

The conundrum. My tummy is already not my friend. Heartburn has improved since this project (if nothing else) but, add tummy rumbling meds?

It was with trepidation that I popped my horse-pill of an ibuprofen. Luckily, my Pink Lady was at my side. My tummy still isn't thanking me for my medication choice - but I'll take the temporary 10 minute tummy discomfort for day long pain relief over a past experience with OTC anti-inflammatories and day long nausea.

Bottom line observation from yesterday. I could get used to this apple per day thing.

Maybe.

Tonight...the Granny Smith.
